I am a graduate of the North American Institute of Medical Herbalism in Boulder, Colorado with certifications as Clinical Herbalist, Clinical Nutritionist, and Certified Flower Essence Practitioner. This rigorous two-year program included over 1100 hours of study in medical herbalism and over 850 hours in clinical nutrition with well-known herbalists and nutritionists including Paul Bergner. My training has prepared me for working with clients dealing health problems ranging from acute illness, such as the flu, to chronic conditions, including chronic pain, digestive disturbances, and menstrual and menopause difficulties. Herbal and nutritional consultations are available as a stand-alone service, or they may be combined with a massage or movement education session. Consultations are usually conducted as a one-on-one session in one of my offices, though they are also available as phone consultations.
As with the rest of my practice, I follow a vitalist approach with my herbal and nutritional consultations. We take into account the whole person, working to identify the root cause of anything impacting the client's life force, or vitality. I do not believe in the "band-aid" approach which simply addresses the symptoms. Though we may occasionally choose therapeutic treatments to help alleviate the immediate discomfort caused by these symptoms, that approach will always be utilized hand-in-hand with deeper work on the underlying cause. As a result, we not only relieve the symptom, but allow the health of the individual to flourish.
Conditions addressed with herbal & nutritional consults include: - Chronic pain
- Gastrointestinal issues, including leaky gut, indigestion, acid reflux, colitis, IBS, constipation, diarrhea
- Food allergies & sensitivities
- Insulin resistance, syndrome X, type II diabetes
- Headaches
- Reproductive issues, including menstrual irregularities, PMS, dysmenorrhea, fertility issues, peri-menopause and menopause difficulties, benign prostatic hyperplasia, PCOS, endometriosis
- Post-partum support, including sitz baths, cord care, after-pains, adrenal support, infant colic
- Breastfeeding support, including low milk supply, food sensitivity issues in infant (colic), weaning
- Fatigue, anxiety, stress, sleep disturbances
- Chronic illness
- Acute illness or injury
- ...and much more!

When coping with a chronic health problem (pain, colitis, menstrual difficulties, insulin resistance, and so on) or there is concern regarding a possible food intolerace or allergy, a stand-alone appointment for an herbal and nutritional consultation is recommended. When clients elect to visit specifically for an herbal and nutritional consultation, we begin with a full-intake which typically requires 1 1/2 to 2 hours. During this intake, we will discuss your primary and secondary complaints (or reasons for the visit), your full health history, typcial dietary intake, response to foods, patterns of illness, etc. Our goal is to develop an accurate picture of how your body is functioning overall and try to identify the root causes of any of your complaints. From here, we will work together to develop a plan to help you achieve better health, taking into account your preferences for nutritional approaches, supplementation, movement, and so on.
You will leave the appointment with any informational handouts I am able to provide on your particular areas of concern, a plan to address your concerns and agreed upon goals for completion before your next appointment. Your plan may include specific menu ideas, steps for an elimination and rechallenge diet, recommendations for specific foods or supplements to address possible micronutrient deficiencies, various approaches to increase your overall vitality, as well recommendations for herbs and flower essences which are indicated for your particular circumstance. Recommended herbs, flower essences, and some supplements are available for purchase from me, if you prefer; I am also happy to provide you with recommendations on where to find similar products locally. ESSENTIAL THERAPY products may be purchased at the time of the consult at a 10% discount. (Not all herbal products are available in my offices; some products may need to be picked up at a later date or mailed, in this case.) Initial intake consultations include one brief follow-up (up to 10 minutes) via phone or email to address any concerns or questions which arise. Initial intake: $75* up to 90 minutes; pro-rated at $50 per hour after that
*Sliding scale fees are available based on financial need. Please contact me, and I will do everything possible to ensure you receive the assistance you need.

My goal is to provide you with the tools and confidence to rebuild your vitality without relying upon me for regular visits. In some cases, however, follow-up sessions are indicated so that we may address the next step on the way toward achieving your goal or to tackle any lingering or new issues. Follow-up sessions may last 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours, depending on the amount of information to be covered. Consultation includes one brief (up to 10 minutes) follow-up via phone or email to address any questions or concerns you have regarding the information and recommendations we've discussed.

For massage and movement education clients, there are times in which nutrient deficiencies become apparent through the way in which your body moves or responds to treatment. Additionally, there may be particular nutrients or herbs which might assist in your recovery from a treatment or which would generally assist you in your healing process. In these cases, a minimal herbal and nutritional consultation (typically lasting 10 minutes) may be added to your session to allow us time to discuss the recommended nutritional or herbal therapies and tailor a formula specific to your circumstance. Clients leave with a list of recommended supplements or herbs along with suggestions for their use. When possible, herbal formulas can be created and filled for the client at their option; not all herbs are available on-site, so formulas may be picked up at a later date or mailed if this option is chosen. Add-on mini consult: $10 per 10 minutes
